Predict-O-Gram

Developed in 1997 by Barr and Johnson

What: This is a prediction strategy that uses key words from the text.

Who: all grade levels and content areas; whole/small group

Why: This strategy allows students to make predictions based on the author's choice of words and see how authors use specific words to tell a story.

When: You would use this strategy when you want your students to understand vocabulary and story structure.

How:

- write a list of vocabulary words from reading selection that reflects story structure

- discuss the meanings of the words

- have students make predictions using vocabulary words in each story element given a template

- read text, discuss predictions, make corrections/additions to template
