Words Their Way Spelling Inventory

What: This assessment is a spelling test.

Who: This assessment is designed for students in grades K-12.

When: You would use this assessment to learn about a student's spelling patterns.

Instructions: Give the spelling test, Say the word, read the sentence, say the word. Looking at the student's work and using the scoring sheet, check off features that are correct. After tallying each column, look at the first column with a score of 5 or less, then scroll to the top to determine the student's stage.

Note: If testing individual students, stop assessment once the student misses 8 consecutively.
